Mi-shell, that is an interesting post. ---by chance can you explain the difference between being a shaman and a healer? sorry to show my ignorance.
Hi celticnoodle! What a funny name!
Well, let me try to make some sense in that....
Everyone has some intrinsic carpacity to heal self and even others.
As a healer - on top of that I have a medical background as an RN and a Jungian Analyst.
I also work with herbs....
Shaman is a Tunguse = Siberian word for someone who has a natural mostly hereditary aptitude to enter deep Theta trance states and while there "see" problems, the solutions to them and or illnesses or --- what our moose is doing right now in the bush....
Sometimes I also see just " space junk" = stuff that is floating around but has nothing to do with me or others in my life....
Then coming back to every day conciousness the big trick /gift is to bring the visions across = remember them and not letting them disolve like dreams. The other thing is to be able to do that at will and with control = it does not help if I go into a full trance when I have 26 people sitting on my carpet waiting that the Medicine Bundle Teaching Circle gets started......
You need parameters....
I claim the word shaman for what I do because it is a Siberian word and that is my culture.the word Medicine Woman here in Canada may imply a Native American heritage. And also chanting and dancing with my drum or scrying with anything from crystal balls to stones or whatever is how I do it, how I can find out if you have Cancer or just a gallstone... or that you have been abused... or whatever...
In the language of my people it is caled Kham. or booh depending on the language.
Someone who heals with herbs and the like is called an Udega.
A Kham sometimes sends a client to an Udega because she saw that the client needs a certain medicine.
What I do as a shaman has not only to do with illnesses, but also who broke into Ghallegar's garage and stole 3 chainsaws last year.... and helping people return a "lemon" car " to the dealership and exchange it for a better one
(nobody likes me in regalia + drum dancing around their used car lot and the press having a field day....)
But I also teach in university and in schools and in my house.
By the way I will have a circle about Tarot next month...
Sometimes , when appropiate, I use the cards as a medium to "find+see" people. Then the Tarot immage becomes transparent and I see the person and the scene/ problem or I smell the booze or whatever....
But people that come to me always come to the (shaman) - for lack of a better word. It is not that I have clients coming for a normal tarot reading. But I may read WITH a terminaly ill mother of 3 small kids and use the archetypes in the cards to help her with the terror of knowing she will be gone bevore Easter....
I may give her a deck to take home, I usualy also give them several drums for the family to use. (I teach them how) whatever works....
Whatever tool someone responds to. Often Oracle cards are better for that than Tarot.....
And a little tip --for just YOU! The hands of the Healer are attached to your wrists!
