Question about a Fournier Deck I found.

Elven

I saw a deck today in the antique shop (which I had the shop hold for me until next week) but I cant work out what type of deck it is?.

It is in a clear plastic hard casing with the Fournier logo on the card and box, and Vitoria (sp?) logo embedded into the case (and on the cards). It has the cards Aces to Ten numbered with 1-10 and then the page, court, king and queen numbered 11, 12, 13, 14.
The Deck is Coins, Swords, Cups and Batons - but no majors.

The Majors arent missing - it doesnt come with them - otherwise the cards in the casing would be loose.
There is no Jack - like regular playing cards.

The illustrations are old style (wood cut - excuse my ignorance) and coloured.

Im wondering what sort of deck this is.

Can anyone suggest a link or know if these are cards used for 'Tarot' or something? Are these just regular playing cards?

Sounds to me like a regular Spanish or Portuguese playing card deck.

The suits, as in Italy, are standard Batons, Cups, Coins and Swords (Diamonds, Clubs, Spades and Hearts are alternative and later designed French suits).

What surprises me is the inclusion of Queens, as I thought that the standard deck only had Page, Knight and King in the Spanish standard deck.

Thankyou for reply jmd! :D

I am going to get the deck as its is lovely - but have to wait until next week :(
I like the images and I like the idea of a standard deck (with these types of pictures) for reading with.

I'll check the Queen card tomorrow when I visit the store and let you know.
Now you've got me checking my memory :D

Naipes ~ Spanish Playing Cards

What I've seen is:

Don Clemente, Royal, Casino, and others market them,
kind of like a Spanish poker deck, but with differences.

Some have 40 cards, some have 48. Here's the deal:

No Queens! ~ King, Knight, and Knave.
Then either 1 thru 9 pips (Courts 10,11,12)
or just 1 thru 7 pips (Courts 8, 9 ,10)

I have no trouble getting these at Mexicano Groceries!
But tell me more about the "woodcuts" by Fournier. :)
What I mean is (Hi Elven!) what are the cards you see?

If you click on here:
http://www.nhfournier.es/

Then put your 'cursor' over STANDARD RANGE (or any other)
there will be a drop-down listing. ¡Tan muchas posibilidades!

"Fancy Cards" is very interesting! (Spanish and Catlan faces)
but the selection throughout is daunting as a blind search...

Elven: do you find the deck you mention anywhere on this site?
