Banzhaf Books

Eeviee

Which Banzhaf book would you reccomend FIRST? -One that will provide the best insites in conjunction with other Thoth books.

I plan purchasing Book of Thoth by Crowley himself. Along with DuQuette's Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot.

Keywords for the Crowley Thoth Tarot :

OR

The Crowley Tarot: The Handbook to the Cards :
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0880797150/ref=mp_s_a_5?qid=1341917938&sr=1-5 (US Amazon link)

I find that both have highly positive reviews, and that the author is highly reccomended here. I am assuming Keywords would be the best, alongside BoT and Understanding, but after thumbing through many threads here, I'm not sure which Banzhaf book would be best to study first.

I have both but have only used Keywords so far. It's great for dipping into for insights on individual cards. I've skimmed the Handbook a bit, and it seems much more comprehensive than Keywords, and perhaps not as "reverent" as DuQuette's book. I noted a few apparent departures in philosophy and theory, but I haven't made a thorough study of it yet. I recall that the Handbook was recommended to me here.

I only have the Handbook, and am finding it invaluable, if a little odd in places - and there are a few misprints which worry me - especially where the wrong card illustration shows up . But for VERY detailed info on symbolism, it's great.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up going with Keywords since the other seemed much more along the lines of DuQuette's. Honestly, all the editing/typo mistakes turned me off to that one, as well as other Amazon reviews.
Later in my studies of the Thoth deck, I shall have to pick the other up, as well as Snuffin's book. Heraring a lot of negative reviews on Arrien's book and Mirrors, so they have been put on the back burner, if ever to be purchased.
Also ordered Thoth medium (purple USG box, with the 3 Magus cards), and the Weiser Guide to Crowley! I cannot wait for the delivery!
I've been interested in/drawn to Thoth Tarot (and Crowley) since I first picked up Tarot about 6 years ago. After starting intensive studies with RWS Traditional decks, I still find myself compelled towards Thoth. Decided I had to finally make the purchase/take the leap. No sense in putting it off any longer. I just end up clicking through Amazon mesmorized with the Thoth and lurking here...

Here's a website you might like, if you're not already aware of it. Look under The Arts/Tarot to find useful information on the Thoth deck. There are a few other sites dedicated to Thoth as well.

I would recommend the Handbook first as its descriptive and designed to be educational and orient the reader. Keywords I think is most useful ad a quick reference when first reading with the deck, but doesn't contain anything not covered in more details in the Handbook.
