The Cheimonette Tarot

Very exciting to see the Kickstarter campaign. :)

Oh my goodness! $3500 in 6 hours! I know it's very early yet, but it looks good for doing an actual printing!

This might be the only run ever of the Cheimonette Tarot. If you'd like a deck (or artwork, or music written by seven amazing west coast musicians, or all of the above), the link to my kickstarter is under the "contact info" tab on my profile, as my home page!

Stunning artwork - this one's a no-brainer.
Thank you for sharing your work.

How could I resist? I am a proud official backer too :)

Thank you so much!! If you want a deck, the early backer discount ($30 instead of $40) is running out pretty fast, so hurry!

You can find the link to my Kickstarter in my profile page under the "contact info" tab, as my Home Page.

I've just finished processing The Sun, which I am including below with the Magician. This is one of the unique card connections I've put into my deck.

The Magician is a highly powerful person, but fundamentally, he's just a kid. He doesn't have the wisdom to use his power either ethically or productively, much as he might want to. The tree behind him is the Tree of Knowledge, with its apple-heart, against a lightning-shot sky, electric with potential and danger. He stands on the roof of a houseThe Magician himself is made of knowledge, of words and numbers, with two extra arms like a Hindu god of creation, but the words that form him keep on echoing "me, me, me", and the space around his heart is empty and unformed. He has not yet had the experience of rising above his childish, solipsistic life into an expanded understanding of the world.

The Sun depicts the Magician again, but grown into adulthood. His house is buried in the earth, and the weathervane that, in the Magician card, pointed nonsensically south in both directions, has been replaced by two weathervanes, pointing in the two cardinal directions of the universe, organized by the forces of gravity: higher and deeper. The Tree of Knowledge has vanished, but its apple-heart appears in the hand of the female Magician, inside the mandala flower from the Tree of Life.

The Sun card is the realization and assumption of personal greatness, earned after a long infancy of self-doubt and an unearned wealth of power and talent, before experience has taught the Magician how to use it. In this sense, the Sun is a prequel to a grander rebirth, the first breath of hope, before the work of resurrection.

So beautiful, unique, outstanding. It's a real pleasure following the birth/creation of this deck!

Thank you, rylla!

Also, the forum moderators have just changed the rule of no kickstarter links! So, here it is again: http://kck.st/GWWbGD

It's been less than a week, and I'm almost at my goal!! This deck is definitely going to get printed. If you'd like one of your own (or the art, music, and other beautiful things I'm offering as part of the campaign), please follow the link to back the project. Also, please forward the link to anybody you know who might like to join us!

So, I have a question for you all: Kickstarter encourages people to create "stretch goals", where you set higher goals if it looks like you'll get more than your goal.

At first, I was just thinking of ordering more decks if I got more money, but now I'm wondering if people would be interested in a full-size, full-color book, instead of just having the little booklet that will come with the deck itself. I could expand on my symbology and interpretation of the tarot even more, include more spreads (some of which I invented myself, others traditional), and, most importantly, include full-color prints of the card images along with the book.

(Additionally, I wrote a new blog post about the three versions of the World card I painted for this deck. And, you know, ee cummings and Piet Mondrian because why not. Take a look to see more images and the kind of material I'll be writing about my cards! http://wp.me/p3wJus-5c)

What do you all think? More card decks? Big full-color book?

Thinking from a seller point of view, I think decks sell better than books. Certainly, many people who buy the deck would like the book too, depending on price, their budget, so on.

If you decide for a book I'd like to mention since there are 100s of tarot books out there describing the meaning of cards, seldom these books can offer something new that hasn't been written before. What I see adding value to a tarot book today is -as you mentioned - expanding on your use of symbology and interpretation of the cards, sharing your vision, etc. At least for me, this is the only reason I would still buy a new tarot book. Of course, color pictures are a big attraction too :) if it can be done at a reasonable price.
