Best rated-G decks for use with seniors?

pink daliha

The Connelly Tarot, it is available on Ebay, Amazon, and all other tarot sellers.
Its got little baby angels on the aces, no nudity whatsoever and the tough cards are renamed Transition and Materialism.

I am in no way saying that senior citizens are like children ;) but there is a long thread in the past on here, right here and has suggestions for kids. Some of them might work here too for ideas and inspiration.[/QUOTE

I just read through that whole thread and at least a few of the decks seems good for my purposes--thank you for pointing it out. Since the thread ended maybe eight years ago, are you aware of more that have come up since then...? Thanks!

Try one of Dorean Virtue's decks. Angels always tend to be safe with an uptight, polite crowd. Just a thought.

Can anyone suggest nice rated-G/maximum a little PG decks that are not so childish or sanitised as to be twee and useless, please? I am looking for attractive artwork as opposed to childish drawings or completely computer-generated-looking.

Wild Unknown is a good reading deck (for me) that isn't childish or twee, but has nothing that would offend anyone that I can think of. I don't know if the drawings are to your taste, but it seems like a deck that would work for any crowd.

I'm 76, and I think we oldsters should be shielded from all exposure to explicit nudity or sex, in tarot or anything else. We are totally innocent of things like that. They need to revise movie ratings too. In addition to G and PG, they need ratings like HG (handler's guidance recommended), and OFX (old farts not admitted).

Now, as regards tarot decks for prudes and narrow-minded religious fundamentalists, regardless of age, the suggestions so far are sufficiently boring as to be acceptable. I might add Hello Kitty and International Icon. Otherwise, it shouldn't be too difficult for any competent reader to select an appropriate deck for their "special" clientele.

Most people in their 50s and up lived some portion of their lives in the sixties. It's going to take more than some bare breasts to upset them. I don't live in a particularly progressive area, but the people who approach me for readings have never become upset or offended by nudity or dark images in the cards.

I do carry a kid friendly deck when reading in public venues, typically cats or fairy tales or maybe Kitty Kahane for tweens. Of course, I only read for underaged folks with a parent's explicit permission. However, I don't feel any need to shield the elderly (of which I am by some people's lights) who I assume are coming to me of their own free will. When I choose a deck for adults, regardless of their age, I gravitate to decks that I have used in readings for others that have worked well and sometimes I get an intuition that I should use a particular deck for someone. In the latter case, there is typically something specific in the symbolism of the deck that is somehow key to the message I'm giving them.

I own a number of the decks named here as a collector-Hanson Roberts, Connolly, and some of the cat tarots. I just don't like reading with those decks as a rule. I even worked with the Hanson Roberts a few weeks ago and simply confirmed that it's just not one of my favorite RWS based decks. The Wild Unknown is the only one I'd really want to use. Even then, I've seen people on the forum comment how savage or dark they find some of the imagery in that deck which just reflects nature IMO. So I just don't think you can pick reading decks based on a desire not to offend or upset people because that varies greatly from one person to the next.

Exactly. Every generation believes that the generation(s) before them know next-to-nothing about sex and dark horror - but when they become parents of young adults they switch to believing that their children's generation know nothing of sex and dark horror.

In fact, I venture to suggest that the generations who were adults BEFORE 1982/3 were much more sexually adventurous and sexually bizarre than those who came after. People have been turning each other inside-out, with their body-parts or with toys (or tools!) for over 3,000 years that we know - there are some quite explicit and bizarre sex-toys that have been dug up in archaeological digs. And have you ever SEEN Victorian/Edwardian pornography? :bugeyed:

It's only after HIV started stalking us, that we got all coy and inhibited. Before that, we just pretended to be.

If you're going to protect your clients from anything that YOU think might upset THEM, make it the thirty-somethings and forty-somethings that you protect.

There are always Doreen Virtue decks. Though never use them for me - I find them deeply offensive (and I actually do, I'm not being sarcastic).

Guardian Angel tarot comes to mind. Yes a bit sanitized ... Quite a bit actually. Lol! But a charming deck that reads well and is great for the more religious or sensitive.

Another one I think would be good is the Victorian Fairy tarot. As far as I know, there's no nudes. It too is very charming, very pretty, highly readable.

i second the Hanson-Roberts and the Victorian Fairy, and the cat decks, particularly Cat's Eye of you're avoiding pagan imagery (or anything "magical"). And probably Connolly, though I don't own that one. Does Hudes have any nudity? I can't recall. Or there are the historical "pip" decks.

I'm 67 and it's pretty hard to shock my generation, true. (At least in the Northeast US, or in the major cities in most of the country.) But the over-75 crowd is a different story: those who were brought up in the '40s or earlier. Especially the women. Or the men, if the reader is a woman.

Yes, I agree. That is my parents generation, and although they are quite familiar with sex, (Having had five children in six years), they are completely uncomfortable with depictions of nudity in public or in mixed company.

For them it is not prudery, it is basic politeness and decency.

Back to topic, I will take the OP at his or her word and not argue the point.

Have you considered a new age style deck like the chrysalis? No nudity there, and the images are quite pleasant.
