Male Tarot Readers

Sheri and Baroli thanks for the compliment. You are both awesome. I was at the readers studio and Heterosexual males are Way , way in the minority.

It did not seem to make much of a difference though; we all had some reading ability no matter who was there.

I am a Heterosexual male and am not offended by anything in this thread, the only time this has sort of bothered me in the past, was when I woman assumed I was not heterosexual just because I was a tarot reader.

For what it's worth, I just did a quick gender count on the members' list of the German Tarot association, and they have 75% of female members.

That seemed to be the ratio at the two Reader Studios I attended, too (though I didn't bother to count exactly).

Orientation, no idea - didn't ever bother me. I put the three who attended with their wives into the mostly straight category, two more disclosed themselves as straight, three said they were gay or attended with their male partners. There were lesbians around too, so I concur that sexual orientation doesn't seem to really influence Tarot reading abilities! That's excellent news, isn't it :D

Is it ? Why ??

Seriously - what does it matter ? Does it matter ????

Threads like this worry me at times.... then I just start to giggle....

it is kind of nice that we can discuss this stuff without hurting anyone. We are a really open minded bunch.

How do we make it more comfortable and acceptable for men to read tarot?

Well, women have fought long and hard for the ability to work alongside men, to be taken seriously in the workplace, to be able to wear bifurcated clothing (trousers), be accepted in to universities and all that stuff. Perhaps men need to fight for their right to wear purple (the ancient colour of royalty) or to be considered good carers, nurses and other typically female positions.

My son wears lots of pinks and purples, he does it deliberately because he is very secure in his sexuality and likes to push people's buttons. If a male tarot reader is insecure enough to be put off by a purple screen, that says more about them and how open minded they are than it does about colour choices on AT or any other site.

Encouraging men should be the same as encouraging anyone else, based upon the person's desire to learn.

It shouldn't and doesn't to me. :D. Tarot readers are so diversified on so many levels... It almost seems silly to even discuss gender (or any other physical difference we might have from one another).

It shouldn't and it doesn't ... that's why it's excellent news.

As a question per se, it is valid though, and probably worthy of exploration...
I never gave it a thought (the gender question, yes - the orientation question, no) before, and will put it ad acta now.

In my home town Tarot reading is 50/50 on a professional level.
I am female for those who dont know me!

I never thought it as a predominantly just female..I know AT seems to be though.. But then i have no idea LOL! coz some of the user names can be tricky LOL!

I think stories from the old days . women seemed to be the predominant ones who read the cards. everyone has heard of the old woman that can be met in secret for your fortune to be told... Mlle Lenormand comes to mind. :D
the males dabbled in Alchemy or Astrology, or both LOL! .. or so it is said in the books Ive read anyway.
these days it is all just a little bit more modern and open minded ..
I think men are really starting to make it big on the scene of being readers.. and mediums.. more so than women sometimes.

So really I dont honestly think it is predominantly a female occupation or pastime.. I reckon theres more men out there that do this than we think.

A man of my acquaintance has recently pointed out (in terms of the amount of time I spend here) that when men are on the net they tend to be looking at sports results and - er - other things..... Could be.....

Yeap, that is true. But luckily for the world, some of us have higher interests in life than just a football and a ... well... "fictional reproduction of what you'd like to be doing"...

(Can i say "porn" here? XD)
