Work In Progress

darkling_raven

uhmm darn

Darn it :/ ...

yeah ... its tarot-y. :/
Oh well *shrugs* as long as I like it I s'pose. After all its going to become more of a journey of discovery for me through the process.

Its hard to kill the resolution to a low level and show the whole thing. The pencil lines get too fine to make out much of anything. I tried to darken the outlines of the pencil against the paper (contrast) but it ended up smudging the entire thing coz some lines were too close to each other and the details bled across :(

Only other way is for me to ink one copy .... then clean up (pencils),re-scan ... I could prob get a decent good copy up for low resolution but fully sized.
I need about 6+ hours to outline and ink one then. *hmmm's*
Unless I brush work it (black) with a chinese brush. Should take me ... oh ... 30 minutes. But it kills on the fine lines and *some* details ... but the overall effect is there.
*thinks some more* ... give me one day. It'll be up by tomorrow then.

Actually the sorcerer pic has been giving my friends some problems too. I cant seem to figure out whats wrong :/ ... I'll have to try look at it again.

Done one

I finished my first card *yeah* =^.^=

BTW: even tho the card says hi-priest, there still is a hierophant card. Unless I rename the high priest (high priestess) with an alternate: like 'The Contemplative".

Thank you.

I can only imagine what the Emperor will be like!
Like the inking too! and don't mind no colors (if that's the plan...)

=^.^=

Note: Please refresh you page when you load the site if you see only ONE image on the page. There is suppose ot be some accompanying text as well ... and scroll down for more. TQ

Lady Eclipse

Hi darkling_raven,

The sketches are wonderful! You are very talented. Just finished checking out your updates and they are very well done. The only thing I would add is I think they need more color. To me, they just seem a little too bland. I think adding more color would tend to make the images pop out and add interest. But, that's my opinion. I look forward to seeing more cards as they are completed. :)

Joy to you,
Maralee

I like both of these so much! The left one has an antique aged look, the right one's depth is gorgeous.

For my taste, I don't think they need more color, though the greenish tinge is not my favorite. You've got a great thing going here, what a leap forward from the sketch stage!

darkling_raven

ermmm

Actually ...

Its still in the sketching kinda process. This is just the color treatment stage. I test out shades before I decide on colour, pigment or monochromatic treatment ...
(I know I'm a little tedious when it comes to my art, you should see me when I do my acrylics *hehe*)

As for the left and right Comtemplative Card.
Right: The aged flat card look is kinda okay. But a friend told me that the image nor the details stand out so it'll be hard to capture the meaning and symbolism in the card. I somewhat agree. =^.^=

Left: I like experiementing with the depth. I has a "glow" like quality to it. But resigning to web copy (web palette safe colors) tinged / tainted the original colouring :( which was more subdued and duochromatic. (grey and brown). Now it looks rusty and green :p (oxidised almost: which might work if I ever casted it in copper or bronze).

The Druid card (empress); is actually a papyrus treatment I'm trying. Its -actually- gonna look like that (plus extra detailing in the final piece).

I'm gonna test it out with some *extreme* olour and see what happens.

Sample of my colouring...
Then try to imagine the same colour treatment for the cards.

*shrugs*

I will be taking a week off to catch up on my classes as well as study some of the cards. I feel like some revisions to the original sketches. (this is only gonna be a Major Arcana deck) ---

Maybe when a new idea/theme/concept hits me; I'll make a full deck. ... maybe *grinz* =^.^=
