Camoin the Best?

Diana

Camoin is great for Easter. Because you can do an Easter egg hunt! If you're not into Easter eggs then maybe it's not the best deck.

Hadar is a woinderful deck. But I think it's out of print at the moment - it's no longer available at amazon.ca anyway.

Heron Conver (NOT Lo Scarabeo which is perfectly dreadful) is one which usually suits all tastes. The least polemical deck anyway and a classic.

Little Baron

I am not that keen on the Camoin because of the bright colours.

But I do like the Grimaud, because even though it is brighter than some, it is not too 'flashy'.

I didn't realise that the Hadar was out of print. That is the one I use the most out of the lot because I like the muted colours, which are not as 'in your face' as some of the others, but are still beautifully rich.

I do not think I would like the Marseilla and I am not a fan of the Fournier.

Grimaud is an easy going deck. No frills and no oddness. Goes straight to the point without any detours. I would never want to live without a Grimaud. Just thinking of living without it makes my anxiety levels increase.

Moonbow

Grimaud is my reading deck, I've tried others and this is the one without the frills and it works for me.

But the question is "Is Camoin the Best"? Myself, I would say no, but I have also used it for readings and it perfectly good for that, just not my first choice. :) (I like the pips though).

Rosanne

I would not say for reading I am in the TdM camp, but I have a few decks now. I received the Fournier as a gift and thought I would love it. I don't, it is like it should come with chocolates. I purchased the Hadar and I was disappointed; I finally realised why. The colours remind me of my school blazer and for that it annoys me. The Burdel is so angry looking or cross. I use the Heron Conver- now that I like! I also like the perfectly dreadful Lo Scarabeo Conver ;) although its plasticy finish is annoying. The fake US Games Burdel doesn't rate a mention and my latest acquisition (other decks are purchases :D) is the Camoin and I like it for study because it is crisp- but it is also soooo primary in its colours.... fussy eh!! But then I am a non TdM reader except for Major Tom's hehe. I would get the Marsella but Gold on a TdM seems a little unreal.....Can't find a Dussere Dodal which would be my first choice- So the Heron Conver over the Camoin I am afraid. You can see I am not obsessed with TdM like you crazy specialists ;) ;) ~Rosanne

Yes, fully agree with that. On the rare occasion I use TdM, this is the one for me.

The Hadar is still available in the stores here, that is, I have seen it within the last 10 days, but they could be running out, don't know.

O.K. I don't exactly dispute the idea of "playful".

But damn me! Isn't the point without detours the idea. ;)

I reckon Major Tom's Tarot of Marseilles reaches all the parts others can't.

Is that frilly? Is that odd? Might be playful mind you.

Cue them drums. The rythym is six. ;)

I used both the Dusserre Dodal and the Heron Conver. :shhh:

But then I was always open about my process.

Non-scenic pips are the biz.

Just ordered the Jodo-Camoin.

Was considering the Ancien Tarot de Marseille by Grimaud until I realized the titles were both in English and French. Somehow a French tarot with English titles just doesn't work for me.

The fact that Camoin and Jodorowsky took certain "liberties" with their deck doesn't really bother me. The Marseille is more of a style than any one particular deck. I don't think there are any two TdMs that are exactly the same. It does kinda bug me that they shamelessly market their deck as the one and only "true" Marseille (Hadar does this too). But it's a beautiful deck and I'm anxiously awaiting to have a look at it.

Edit To Add: Just found out Grimaud has a TdM
available with French titles only...
hmmm...

I love the Hadar but I ordered a Grimaud for everyday readings (I hope this will be the deck I bought more than 20 years ago in France).

CONOS is nice but I have an issue with the backs - they do not match the style of the fronts IMO.

Mini Fournier is nice in case you like bright colours.

LS TdM is hideous, the colours cry in your face. I am really looking forward to their Universal TdM, hope this is much better in colouring.
