You may be right.

I had a black silk spreadcloth I hemmed myself and recently traded. What I want is a suede-textured cloth in a pretty color, maybe dark blue, that can be laundered.

Really? Are you sure? I thought that but a seamstress sews and hems but doesn't necessarily make suit (at least they don't round here). A tailor wouldn't bother himself with hemming silly, fussy spreadcloths. Too busy making Prince of Wales suits on Saville Row...

'Seamster' is an actual word. No reason not to use it.
